Update: House Makes Significant Changes to Families First Coronavirus Response Act

On Monday, March 16, 2020, the House passed major changes to the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, before the bill even made it to the Senate. The latest version of the bill can be found here.  The revised legislation no longer requires paid family leave. In addition, it does not require companies to provide employees with the two weeks of mandatory paid sick leave if the employer’s paid sick leave policy is sufficient to meet the requirements of the law. As of right now, the bill requires employers to provide each employee with not less than 1 hour of paid sick time for every 30 hours worked, but employers are not required to permit an employee to earn more than 56 hours of paid sick leave in a year.
