Attorney John Lande, chair of the firm’s Cybersecurity, Data Breach, & Privacy practice group and frequent blogger on banking fraud and cybersecurity issues, was recently cited in a ProPublica article on how foreign scammers are using U.S. banks to defraud Americans.

ProPublica produces investigative journalism articles that spotlight abuses of power and betrayals of public trust covering government and politics, business, technology and more.

In the article, reporter Cezary Podkul dives deep on how fraudsters set up fake bank accounts as way stations in a multistep money laundering process that transports cash from U.S. scam victims to criminals in Asia. Podkul points to one of Lande’s blogs that outlines how banks are under no obligation to reverse a fraudulent transfer – even when a customer reports potential fraud.
