Dickinson Cares--Giving Back

United Way 2018 Keeping Kids Warm, Helping Literacy

Posted on 11/16/2018 at 03:05 PM by The Newsroom

We had a successful United Way Campaign the week of November 5-9, 2018.  Our theme this year was “Dickinson Cares – Giving Back” and we did, indeed, give back to the community.  Throughout the week, we had a mitten/glove, hat and sock drive.  We collected 52 hats, 73 pairs of gloves and 100 pairs of socks and delivered them to Edmunds Elementary School in Des Moines on Friday afternoon.  Everyone at Edmunds was excited to receive warm things to give to their students.

We also had a Literacy Kit assembling lunch.  These kits are used at elementary schools in Central Iowa to help kids learn to read.  Each one contains a book, flash cards, and a message to encourage kids to keep reading.  Everyone at Dickinson pitched in to build the kits.  It was a fun week and Dickinson does care about the community!
