Student Loans and Bankruptcy, Volume II

Remember my latest blog on the potential to discharge student loan debt? Well, the Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Iowa’s order discharging more than $230,000 of borrower’s student loan debt recently became final when the lender dropped its appeal. If you are interested in the facts of the case or the court’s legal analysis, read this order.
While all cases are fact specific, this case reinforces my earlier comments that even here in Iowa, those of you us suffering from a heavy student loan debt may be able to find relief through bankruptcy.
And for those of you who also share my interest in the non-legal aspects of student loan debt, check out this June 26, 2018 New York Times article written by Ann Carrns which explains how some employers are helping recent graduates save for retirement while paying off their student loans.
