It was a night of art, music, food, and fun at the 7th Annual Artists on Display Open House held on June 28th at the Dickinson Law offices in downtown Des Moines.
Approximately 200 guests attended the event which featured live music by John Krantz, food and drinks by The Tangerine Food Company, and numerous works of art on display by 13 talented Iowa artists.
Highlighting both modern and traditional pieces including paintings, sculpture, photography, and mixed media creations, the artists (including Megan and Greg Culver, pictured above) were also on hand to explain the process behind their work.
For artist Joel Lueck, this includes taking a photo of an inspirational structure such as a picturesque barn, Victorian home, or a familiar skyline and recreating the scene in ink.
“I look for something that I find interesting in real life and reproduce it using lots of small lines,” Lueck said. “Depending on how intricate it is, sometimes a piece can take up to a week to complete.”

For artist Jane Curl whose work focuses on capturing landscapes with pastel paints, the event was a great way to network with fellow art lovers.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for artists like myself to not only show my work, but to make new friends and connections in the community,” said Curl.

About the program
Now in its seventh year, the Iowa Artists on Display program was created in 2013 to provide Iowa artists with another opportunity to showcase their works at the Dickinson headquarters and culminates in the open house event each June so the public can interact with the artists and their work during the Des Moines Arts Festival. The program is a continuation of Dickinson Law’s dedication to furthering the arts through its service to various organizations and art boards over the years.
This year’s featured artists included: Bob Cooper, Chris Slack, Megan Culver, Joel Lueck, Joan Miller, Amy Folkers, Julie Jewell, Jane Curl, Michele Baggenstoss, Mary Holtze, Kat Silent Water, Gary Hoff, and Amy Witte.
