Introduction
Russell L. Samson, Dickinson Bradshaw local attorney, practices primarily in the area of employment law, including traditional labor law, exclusively representing employers in the private sector. He advises clients in the areas of union representation, labor rights, negotiating contracts and union grievances, and unfair labor practices. He also counsels, advises and represents employers in personnel matters ranging from policy creation and documentation, restructuring of personnel to investigating, responding to and defending against claims of unlawful discrimination and wrongful discharge. He has served as the chapter labor attorney to Associated Builders and Contractors of Iowa since 1988.

- Successfully represented a business which provides on-site services to other businesses in a union organizing campaign by a union which represented employees of the customer; was successful in having two unfair labor practices dismissed by the Regional Director (and the decision affirmed on appeal).
- Successfully represented a business which was the target of “consumer advisory” picketing (including “shame” banners, “giant rat” balloons and a “ratmobile” following trucks and equipment to customers’ sites), including having unfair labor practices dismissed by the Regional Director (which decision was affirmed on appeal by the union).
- Has represented several businesses in Department of Labor audits under the FLSA (including one where a primary issue involved the “computer exemption”) and under Davis-Bacon. Was successful in having an erroneously published Davis-Bacon rate corrected.
